Cereal City Classic -
Battle Creek, MI
2-21-07:
This past weekend the entire squad of competitive gymnasts from All
American Flames Gymnastix snapped, crackled and popped at the Cereal
City Classic, held at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, MI. Their
"ggggrrrreeeaaaatttt" performances earned them many individual and team
honors as they battled against numerous teams from across our state and
region.
The
Level 8's
entertained their thoughts of breakfast early on Friday morning as they
survived a 4th place (out of 11
teams) finish.
The
Level 5's finished out the day with a surprisingly nutritious 3rd place (out of 30
teams) finish! Who knew dessert could be so good for you?!
While being led by Katie Kennedy's all-around performance (36.750), they
performed confidently and admirably.
The
Level 9's
may have skipped breakfast in order to perform in Saturday's
lunch-session. The middle of the day featured some very fine
athletic performances including Amanda Stepp's all-around routines (sans
beam). A simple execution error on beam led to the fall which
resulted in the loss of the 2nd place All-Around, dropping her into 5th.
The
Level
6's entered the arena to the rooster-tune on Sunday.
Cock-a-doodle-DO! The breakfast of champions was not to be
consumed this year by the Lady Flames as they squeaked out a 7th place
(out of 17 teams) finish. However, Jessica Leverenz did receive a
personal invitation to the meal as she unexpectedly discovered the prize
hidden in the cereal box - the highest score on the balance beam for any
Level 6 competitor (9.575).
The
Level
4's finished off the Lady Flames' participation in the Cereal City
Classic with an explosive 2nd place team performance. The Lady
Flames' were simply too hot for any hurricane to extinguish as they
contested for the unofficial title of Port Huron's Best Level 4 Team by
beating cross-town rivals
112.975 (2nd) .vs 102.150 (19th).
The
Fire Squad boys continued to show improvement as they participated
in their second competition of the season. Keep it up!
Go Flames!

Chicago Style -
Chicago, IL
2-11-07:
"The
Largest Women's Gymnastics Invitational Meet in the World," was held
at the historic Navy Pier in Chicago, IL, this past weekend.
Roughly 3500 female gymnasts from Levels 4 thru Elite participated in
the 3-day event. Five gyms - each with 2 sets of equipment ran the
entire length of the complex. The Lady Flames took part in the
festivities from early Friday morning until Saturday evening.
The
Level 8's started things off and managed a 6th place (out of 23
teams) finish, led by Courtney Paeth's all-around Gold Medal performance
(36.625). Other notables were Hamilton (FX-1st), Phillips
(FX-1st), and Wypasek (Vault-1st).
The
Level 6's kept the fire burning by turning in a 4th place (out of 30
teams) finish. The sixers were led by Holly Manter's Silver Medal
all-around performance (37.025) and followed closely by teammates
Leverenz (36.675 - 4th) and Goggin (36.600 - 2nd). Breanna Goggin
won the Gold on the balance beam with a 9.225.
The
Level 9's participated in the final session of the day.
Beginning on the balance beam was the preferred starting point for the
nines, and they made the most of it. Both Leadbetter and Stepp,
respectively, ignited for individual Gold Medals on the starting
apparatus. Stepp also went on to claim the Gold Medal on the Floor
Exercise and the Silver Medal on Vault, helping to shore-up a
disappointing bars performance for a 2nd Place all-around finish.
Leadbetter's balance beam performance ranked 2nd overall, out of 173
Level 9 competitors, for the Friday competition.
The
Level 5's were the final spark for the Lady Flames' Chicago hopes.
The middle session was their draw, with the Floor Exercise their
starting point. They finished 2nd place (out of 21 teams).
Katie Kennedy fired-up a career all-around performance (36.900) placing
4th.
It needs to be mentioned that many Michigan teams
competed in the Chicago Style competition. Our state was
represented very well in the final standings. This attests to the
fact that the level of competition within our home state is
extraordinary. Our hats are off to each individual gymnast, coach,
parent, owner & judge who takes part in making Michigan a great
gymnastics state!
