Two of the three Level 7 Lady Flames received top honors on the vaulting
apparatus during the 2006 Level 7 State Championship. While the
3rd, Tabatha Lehto, placed 4th. Kathleen
Duemling and Samantha Pennazoli both captured the gold on vault in their
respective age groups, with Duemling also taking home a bronze on the
balance beam (9.4). Duemling's performances paved the way for her
silver medal All Around finish (37.400). Nice finish to the season!

Great job by the Lady Flames' Level 4 Team at the Hot Shot Invitational
hosted by Hartland Gymnastics Academy. Over 500 gymnasts performed
at this competition. The Level 4 team competed using the same
format as the higher level gymnasts use during their year-end State Meets.
The Lady Flames captured the 1st Place Team Trophy. Great work
ladies! Pictures |

Jitters stepped in the way of the preferred performance that Amanda
Stepp was expecting to have at the Level 9 Eastern Nationals held at
Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Amanda battled her nerves
in front of the four-judge panels, falling twice on the balance beam.
She finished with a spirited performance on the Floor, and landed a
9.025. Besides being 1 of 49 top gymnasts in her age group in the
eastern United States, her trip to Nationals was memorable in more ways
than just this competition. She was reunited with longtime friend
and former teammate Hannah Barile (Berks Gymnastics, Pennsylvania), who
also qualified to the "big-dance" as a rookie. Since discovering
that Barile was moving to Pennsylvania last summer, it was a personal
goal of both gymnasts, to meet each other at Nationals,
Barile received the silver medal on vault with a 9.40. Congrats to
both ladies for making it to the Level 9 "Olympics!"

A tough conclusion to an otherwise successful season was the soup du
jour for two of the Lady Flames' Level 8 Regional Competitors.
Kristen Patchel and Lauren Allen both gave an honest effort at the
Indianapolis competition, but fell short of their goals. However,
Delina Phillips, representing the state of Michigan on the Jr. B squad,
helped Team Michigan win their age division and the overall Super Team
Award. Defeating the teams from Illinois, Ohio, Indiana and
Kentucky. Congratulations Delina!
